On May 12, 2009, the ACLU and the Public Patent Foundation filed a suit on behalf of organizations and individuals representing over 150,000 health professionals and women’s groups and individuals. The suit, against the US Patent Office and Myriad Genetics, seeks to invalidate breast cancer gene patents.

Michelle Wilsey is a 29-year-old woman who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She recently had a double mascetomy and will be undergoing chemo therapy and radiation this summer. Michelle was told by doctors that the lump she felt in her breast COULD NOT be breast cancer because she was healthy, young and had no history of breast caner, but after insisting that doctor’s due the tests, Michelle was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in April 2008.
